Long time, little walking

Well, has my athletic development screeched to a halt? No, it hasn't. It has gotten a bit less active, but I'm still out there.

Seth and I are trying to get out three times per week, and I'm trying more running. I have two inhalers to help me, and I must say, "Thank you, God!" because my knees don't hurt at all even with running. So, I'm adding a little at a time- building up aerobic endurance that I didn't really have before.

What I do need to be careful about is the same old cramp in the shins- I have to start out very slowly. I was very pleased with myself last week and started out walking fast and then ran a bit, and within 1/2 mile I had the killer pain and had to sit on a bench and cry for a while. Very successful.

So, what is the plan? Seth and I are doing a 5k in the city on the 4th. We're going to try to run a fair bit of it, but I doubt it will be much. After that, I have my sights set on a 1/2 marathon in May (Avenue of the Giants) and, of course, doing the full marathon at this year's Nike. We'll see if that is going to be walking or running as we see how we progress.
