Swimming is good

I've been doing laps regularly, and I'm improving already. Wednesday night I did 16 laps, so I know that I'm good to go for the race. I'm also signed up for some private swim lessons, and that should help as well. I've never had lessons and I know that I'm probably doing things all wrong and improvement in my breathing and form will help a lot.
Wednesday was also the first time I swam with goggles, and it was pretty cool. Strange- everything was magnified- but really cool.

As far as the biking and running, it's been a slow week. My knees have been really sore this week, and I'm not sure if it's from the biking or the weather. I know that I'll be fine in the bike portion of the race even if I don't get to practice much. The real question is how jellified my legs will be for the run that comes after it. Of course, we have like a 3 hour time limit or something obscene like that for 4 miles, so even if I'm totally jelly legs at first, I'll be fine.

I'm also chilling on the running this week, because my legs are trying to have shin splints, and that just can't happen. I have my 1/2 marathon a week from Sunday, and I know I'll be fine. My goal is just to do it faster than my previous time of 3:58:59. I know I can do that. I'm probably going to be pretty sore, though, since I haven't done any distance in quite a while. Oh well. It's good for me.

short update

I'm doing the Kaiser 1/2 Marathon on Feb 3, and that should be good. I'm shooting for 3.5 hours or less. That's 1/2 hour off my Nike time. I think that's doable with running part of the time.

A friend asked me to train for a triathlon, so I said that I'd start swimming and see. Last night I did laps for the first time, oh, ever. Doing my own thing and just trying to keep moving from one end of the pool to the other, I did 10 laps in 20 minutes. Some underwater, some freestyle, lots on my back. But I did it, and it was better than I thought. I had it in my head that a half mile was 33 laps, but that's a full mile. So the race is a half mile of swimming, which is 16.5 laps, and I did 10. Wahoo!! I probably could have done that last night. But it will be in a lake where I can't stop and stand there catching my breath. I do have 4 months to get in better shape, and I can always float and catch my breath. The next item is whether or not I'll have to borrow a wet suit. I'll have to practice swimming in that.
